Women: Having the Uncomfortable Conversation

Mar 10, 2017

Spurred by the Women’s March in January, women across the globe have been looking for ways to do more than protest. A call to action simmers. How to create a collective that implements change? Part of the challenge is that many issues that fit under the umbrella: ‘women,’ also incorporate divergent agendas. Until the Women’s March, many felt left out and that white women were co-opting the word, ‘discrimination,’ without ever having to endure the micro and macro injustices that minorities in all spheres endure daily. ‘Check your privilege,’ became a phrase that could have fractured a movement that was incubating. Instead, the organizers of the Women's March listened, adapted and included. Something institutions and businesses should mimic.

Providing a platform to explore these and other questions is Sabrina Garba of The Glass Ladder Group, an organization specializing in strategic incorporation of cross-cultural and social justice methodology to advise corporations and individuals in strategy and leadership. She has created an event series, including Woman to Woman, which sponsored this panel discussion, with the goal of bringing people together to engage in difficult conversations leading to mutual understanding and solutions. Sabrina believes that “addressing the global knowledge and experience gap, can empower people to work together towards a more positive and sustainable socio-political environment.”
